Top StoryOh! What a night - Reporting the English Kids Academy” Britannic” Charity BallSocial Worker Maria with some of the Tombola prizes The young people studying English at Bucharest‘s English Kids Academy celebrated their end of term with a fantastic evening in a shimmering white marquee set up in the beautiful garden park of the lakeside Mogosoaia Palace. There were well dressed "prince and princesses" galore amongst the guests so the event had all the flavour of a real “Buck House” garden party, especially round the marquee, with its red coated guards on parade and the photo-opportunity, life sized cut out of Her Majesty the Queen welcoming guests. Martin Harris, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Romania, before presenting prizes, spoke in fluent Romanian of Romania’s many links with Britain and the infinite benefits of sharing a common second language. The post presentation show with CID Ro Patron, Florin Chilian, C.R.B.L., and dance troupe, Ana Maria and Rares, from Romanian TV’s “Next Star”, encouraged everyone to dance and sing the evening away and guests of all ages had a fabulous night. Mihai Ganj, President of English Kids Academy and his team had determined that this year’s event would choose Children in Distress as their first charity beneficiary, so the full CID team was there, on hand with a superb tombola and staffing a silent auction to which the Academy’s kids contributed collectables, with both a history and an estimated starting price. On the night, the tombola sold out and each of the silent auction collectibles reached their estimates, raising sum of £2000 for the infants and children in CID’s hospices. The English Kids Academy team is also looking at ways their exceptional English language programme might be extended to the disadvantaged children in one or more of CID Ro’s POSDRU education projects. Congratulations to everyone involved it really was a night to remember! |
