Young visitors from the local Ion Barbu High School looking to help St Andrew’s in the future

The Ion Barbu visitors before beginning their tour

Gifts of fresh fruit, biscuits and fruit yoghurts were the order of the day, on the 6th of May, when pupils of the Ion Barbu Theoretical High School in Pitesti, paid a visit to St Andrew’s Centre.

St Andrew’s Director, Marianna Mandreanu, hosted the visit and in a short presentation shared the background of the Centre’s development, the story of its unique partnership with Children in Distress and the ongoing importance of the role played by this UK-Romanian nongovernmental organisation in the delivery of the Centre’s mission of care.

The visitors and their form teacher, were taken aback to hear of the multiplicity of health and social problems faced by the children resident at St Andrew’s, of the complexities of their diagnoses and the everyday struggle to improve their health. They were exceptionally impressed, by the facilities, the professionalism and quality of holistic care and palliative services offered by the Centre’s care team. Having visited, they committed to re-visiting the children in future. The care team in turn were very impressed by the maturity, understanding and interest of the youngsters and felt just a little blessed, that their local family of care network had recruited a few new, young and committed supporters.  Hopefully, this will be the start of a long and enduring friendship.
