Please Remember the Children
A Legacy First in Romania
Giving to charity was one of those things that was all but forgotten in Romania after World War II as people struggled to exist in the new society Stalinism imposed.
Over the last few years, since joining the European Union, and as the economy and life improved, the natural generosity at the heart of every Romanian has been shown again and again.
Romanian Funding on Target for 2009
Our colleagues at Copii in Dificultate are well on target to raise more than 50% of the operating costs of projects with the help of government subsidies, local government support and donations from companies and individual donors.
CID Ro's First Legacy Donation
The children in our care recently received the first part of a legacy donation from the estate of the late Mrs Sonia Fromescu, who wanted the children to benefit from nearly £9000 - and there will be a little more in US dollars once her estate is finalised.
Mrs Fromescu and her executrix came to know of the work of Copii in Dificultate (CID Ro) from the excellent coverage and publicity that has been achieved over the last few years by the Romanian press and successful TV/radio campaigns that have been delivered, voluntary, by the wonderful team at award winning Next PR in Bucharest.
Generosity Helps the Child Development Centre
We bless Mrs Fromescu for being the first to leave a legacy to fund our work.
We will recognise her generosity by naming one of the new treatment rooms after her in the expanded St Nicholas' Child Development and Therapy Centre in her honour.
Work is now well underway to ensure this essential extension to St Nicholas' is completed by late summer 2009. Although funds for its completion are still to be collected, we hope and pray that, despite the economic crisis, Mrs Fromescu's generosity will inspire others to us help complete the work.
