Good new from PositvPlus+ in Cernavoda

Marian at his recent birthday party

This month, young Marian, one of St Laurence newer residents, graduated from 3rd grade with some great results, including the fact that he aced the final tests. His form teacher was delighted to see him make regular progress each month so he gave him excellent grades. His polite good manners also received special mention as did to his commitment to catching up, dedication to learning and  everyday hard work in completing  his homework.

On moving into 4th grade, Marian has graduated to Elementary School No.1 in the town of Castelu in Constanta County. He now needs to take a one-hour train ride every day to reach his destination. Daniela M, another of St Laurence’s newer youngsters, who attends classes in that school, accompanies him. She is in 6th grade so she is a bit ahead of Marian. Both are part of the school’s “Second Chance Programme” which means they make two school years in one, allowing them  catch up with fellow pupils their own age. All of St Laurence’s eligible beneficiaries are enrolled in this school programme and are doing very well, achieving good grades and making the most of it. For instance, Nicu B. another young man, who recently was transferred to St Laurence, will go to the same school, where he will be one of Daniela’s classmates. “ Second Chance” is a school programme that allows people to continue their studies; it is designed especially for teenagers with various diagnoses and or from poor families and complicated backgrounds, who were forced to go to work instead of completing school. Every day, the hard-studying students from St Laurence are accompanied and safely supervised on their way to and from school by a duty social care assistant.
