Wool and Knitting Patterns Back in Demand

Jane Russell's Knitting Wool and Patterns Appeal

CID's Thrift Shop has stepped in to meet a new demand as Shildon's haberdashery.

Over the last few years all the wool shops in the area have closed leaving Shildon's handy housewives no opportunity to get knitting. The nearest store is miles away and seldom has the stock they require. Our ever enterprising fundraiser, ,Jane Russell, thought that with some help from supporters up and down the country, she might just be able to meet demand and make a few shillings for the children in our care.

Jane first invited family, friends and members of her local church to donate unused hanks or balls of wool, knitting needles and those discarded patterns that sit unused in every knitter's collection.

The customers at Shildon are thrilled, as are our knitting groups across the North, who have had an influx of new members and wool to keep their once idle hands busy.

Knitting is Back in Fashion

Jane now looks to expand her appeal of wool, patterns, needles and the bits and pieces that make handicrafts so popular. If you have a bag of patterns or wool lying unused, why not put it to good use or allow others to knit much needed sweaters, hats and gloves to keep the children in our social programmes warm this winter or, alternatively, pass them on to the good people of Shildon and help the charity raise much needed funds.

Patterns, Wartime Knits and Trendy 60's Cardies all Welcome

Jane says "If any of you or your mothers, aunts, friends has any wartime knitting patterns which they could spare, I would be very grateful to receive them please. I promise they will be put to good use for Children in Distress. Please ask your elderly relatives and neighbours if they have any left over from all the knitting that went on during the war years.  I'm not going to start knitting socks, balaclavas, sleeveless pullovers etc for the kids in Romania but I promise to put them to good use to benefit our children."

For donations or further information please send  to Jane Russell at Barmiranda, West Lund Lane, Kirkbymoorside, Yorkshire YO62 6AJ, or contact her on 01751 432089.
