Top StoryVolunteers Revisit So Many Memories at St LaurenceFiona and some of the 'Girls on Tour' at St Laurence "And What An Amazing Time We Have Had", writes Reverend Fiona Lee Reverend Fiona Lee recently led a party of nine former volunteers back to walk down memory lane at St Laurence Children's Centre in Cernvoda, to revisit the project, spend some time with the young people living there and remember in a Service of Thanksgiving the children who live on in their memories of their time as volunteers caring of the infants and children battling with HIV/AIDS. Wonderful Young People It's wonderful to see the 'children' looking so well, grown up and mature now - they looked after us so well, giving us a huge welcome upon arrival, and we enjoyed many trips out with them, in Cernavoda and beyond, as well as sharing in valuable time together at the hospice itself. The refurbishments in Casa Cristi have made living conditions so much better for Alin, Viorica, Valentin and Noemi. We were very impressed and it's good to see the continuing support and care these children receive from the Romanian carers. It would be wonderful to see Casa John and Casa Peter refurbished to the same high standard. It Meant So Much Just being at the hospice again has meant so much to us - the time has been incredibly special and we hope to return again soon. As much as it meant to us being with the children again, it seemed to have meant even more to them that we were there - that we still love them. Sharing in the Memorial Service on the Sunday afternoon, in the chapel, bringing together not only the staff, children and former volunteers, but also such people as Dr Matusa, Paul Kubaszky and Katherine Georgescu, was such a powerful experience. Many of the children shared their memories during that time, as well as Dr Matusa and one or two volunteers, about the past and the children they knew and loved, as well as their aspirations for the future. It's a Real Credit to Everyone at CID The fact that the care and support of these young people goes on, with all the hard work that Children in Distress puts in, is a real credit to you all.
