Record Keyworth Show Tombola for CID
Keyworth Tombola Team 2009
680 Donated Prizes Steal The Show
Geoff and Trish Witcomb, dedicated and stalwart supporters of Children in Distress, called on the goodwill of friends and supporters to gather over 680 spectacular tombola prizes for their traditional stand at the Keyworth Show.
Participants and visitors to this ever popular show never fail to support this very kind hearted and enterprising couple who, for the last ten years, have manned their Tombola Stall and raised thousands of pounds in the process, to make possible the work of the charity.
This year, with glorious weather and the help of their dedicated team of helpers, they raised over £670, which with matched funding from Geoff's employer, Pearson Driving Assessments, means that the much needed new St Nicolas' Therapy Suite will be helped along to the tune of nearly £1200.
This was a spectacular result, made possible by everyone who gave of their time for a wonderful day in the sun. Thank you and exceptionally well done to everyone.
This Is Only Part Of The Story
Geoff and Trish, too long unsung heroes, have been supporters since the earliest days of Children in Distress. Both were involved in the darkest days caring for infants and children battling with AIDS when St Laurence Hospice first opened its doors and the children who still live there have special place this wonderful couple's heart.
Nothing is too much trouble for this inspirational couple, who work tirelessly to help the charity deliver its mission of care. Over the years, from friends, business, Rotary, Inner Wheel and social contacts, hundreds of boxes of clothes, medicines and food supplements have been gathered, packed and shipped to where they were most needed.
This dynamic duo are also renowned for their talks on the work of the charity, where they bring the wealth of experience and long-term involvement to share their experience of what can be achieved in caring for infants and children abandoned as being terminally or incurably ill, beyond help or hope and being one of Europe's "forgotten" children.
East Midland's "Christmas Shoebox" Campaign Champions
Over they last few years Geoff and Trish have also found the time to be mainstays of the charity's Christmas Shoebox Collection Campaign in the East Midlands, co-ordinating and collecting thousand of donated Christmas Shoebox gifts to bring joy to children who would otherwise never know the joy of Christmas.
