Top StorySport VIPs Visit Before the WhistleCelebrities Visit Before Europa League Fixture The directors, staff and invited celebrity guests of Motherwell Football Club took time out of their busy schedule to pay a flying visit to the children in St Margaret’s Hospice in Bucharest the morning before the club’s first leg fixture with Steaua Bucharest. The club’s chairman, John Boyle, is a long-term supporter, friend and patron of Children in Distress who has worked tirelessly over 18 years to help the charity save the lives of children and develop the paediatric hospice care in Romania. Visitors Much Moved By What They Saw John Boyle, speaking to the press at half time, said: “We were all incredibly moved by what we saw. It is a centre for palliative care and before the game we saw 15 very sick children who are coming to the end of their lives. After what we saw this morning, it put football in perspective.” Tam Cowan, Journalist and Sports Commentator, was Moved Tam was so impressed and moved after visiting the centre, he suggested to John Boyle that they had to think of another Charity Ball in Glasgow to follow last November’s successful event which raised over £100.000 and allowed the development of new therapy treatment suites at St Nicolas Child Development Centre to go forward. Fans also offered help by donating over £150 in local currency and Euros rather than converting their unspent Romanian notes. Thank you to everyone who visited the centre and the happy fans who won the admiration and hearts of the people of Bucharest. As a result, there has been increased interest from local press and media in St Margaret's, and the work of the charity in Romania. Motherwell Young Team Put On A Brave Show Motherwell’s young team played well against veteran champions Steaua and left with the challenge of making up three goals lost in their first leg tie. |
