Florin Cooks up a Trustee's Lunch

by Alyth Hughes

Florin is like any other child. His summer days away from the special kindergarten that he loves are either full of untold delights or just boring.

The nurses and staff at St Margaret’s Hospice do everything they can to occupy his lazy days and help him develop.

Alyth Hughes, our Consultant Physiotherapist and Trustee, was working in St Margaret's last month and shared Florin’s day.

Florin Loves to be Involved

Florin just loves to be involved and help with everything,  I was delighted on my recent visit to Bucharest to have my lunch cooked by Florin and “Aunty” Voica, (the Hospice’s Dietician and Cook).

He spent time kneading, rolling and throwing flour on the work surface and then mixing cheese, eggs and herbs for the filling. He made, by himself, a decoration for the top of the pie and after much filling and twisting, he oiled a bowl and pleated it into shape.

He put the decoration on the top and then Voica put it in the oven for him.

Hands Washed and Raring To Go

Ever hygiene conscious, Florin had his cook’s hat and apron on and washed his hands thoroughly before, during and after the baking. He then set about the washing up.

He Was Delighted

This is what Occupational Therapy is all about. He is really living out the activities of daily living and making a decent stab at an edible pie - I know because I ate it - which delighted him.

Please help us help other children like Florin by sponsoring the work of St Nicholas' Child Development and Therapies Centre in Bucharest.

We have over twenty children like Florin who need practical life skills therapy.  A little funding will go a long way . Contact Isabel by calling 0141 559 5693
