Bagging a bargain

Jane Russell, our Funding development manager (North of England), has achieved her dream, after long months of searching and recent fraught lease negotiations, for next Wednesday at 10 am, she will see the charity’s new thrift shop open in her beautiful hometown of Kirkbymoorside in Yorkshire.

A  wonderful  team of volunteers led by Jane and  Gill Wilson, our shop new manager, over the next five days will have to  clean, scrub ,wash , paint and  decorate , stock the rails and finally  dress the windows in  this almost  “Ask Anica” charity challenge . Jane and her team of volunteers have been set a tough challenge, as they battle to get the shop spruced up and ready to welcome the Mayor, Joe Coughlan, who has kindly agreed to declare the shop open.

Children in Distress have been fortunate over the years to have had in depth support from the wonderfully generous people of Kirkbymoorside and its surrounding area, and it was a natural development to see our newest shop open in the town.

Gill Wilson, who joins our thrift shop management team, will bring her wealth of charity retailing expertise and local knowledge built up over many years working in the town’s other charity shop. She is raring to go, for weeks she has been selecting and sorting bargains for this new venture.  Gill says “The shop volunteers and I are all impressed by the quality of the stock we have and the generosity of everyone who have made donations or just worked so hard to help us open the doors. We intend to be at the very heart of this community offering a warm welcome to everyone as well as raising funds to provide respite, palliative and end of life care for little ones, who otherwise would have pretty sad end.”

Gill her team will offer a warm welcome to everyone visiting  the shop at 31 Market Place, Kirkbymoorside, whither , browsing, shopping or calling in to make donations. Please come along

If you can help or wish to volunteer or simply make a donation please call Jane Russell on 07775 695611 via email at
