Top StoryAlexandru a very sick and very sad little boyAlexandru should be enjoying his summer vacation sadly now he is battling renal failure
Alex has always been full of life and disregarded his spina bifida, it was something he grew up with and it never held him back he was a happy healthy little boy confident and cheerful wee fellow always full of smiles.
Unfortunately, since the end of June, Alexandru has suffered from nausea and bouts of fever. The medical care team at St. Andrew’s Hospice decided Alex needed to go to hospital for a complete medical check to find out what was wrong. Initially he was in admitted to Pitesti’s Central Hospital and doctors diagnosed Alex had renal failure and might have to be included in the national dialysis programme. It was decided to seek a second opinion, so Alex was taken to Bucharest’s Budimex Hospital. For a week, Alex was the subject extensive test, in order to make the diagnosis as accurate as possible. Sadly doctors from Budimex confirmed that Alexandru is suffering extreme renal failure, but they did not recommended dialysis. In the hope of cheering him up the care team from St. Margaret’s paid regualr daily visits, so Alexandru always had a freindly face, someone with whom he could talk, play, have a little fun, and forget at least for a moment being in hospital, so far from his friends and the carers he knows as his family. Alexandru was discharged after a week of tests and returned to St. Andrews. Where everyone hoped that his condition would stabilise and improve, unfortunately the nausea and the fever persisted and he also lost weight, so the doctor at St. Andrews initially prescribed treatment for the nausea and fever. The St Andrew’s medical care team gravely worried, decided it best to return Alex to the Budimex, but unfortunately, the Consultant caring for him is on vacation for the next week. Alex is a great favorite with all of the care team at St. Andrew’s, it is extremely difficult for them to look at him so ill knowing there is little they can do to keep up his spirits. He is now very a very withdrawn and sick little boy who is finding it hard even to speak to those he loves.
If you would like to help Alexandru of perhaps send him a get well card to let him know you care, please contact Valentina Zaharia (vali@cid.org.ro) |
