ELY’S FUND A PHYSIO RAISES MORE FOR

Any More Tea Vicar?

T-day, Saturday 7th August 2010 dawned dull and wet, not a good omen for the Garden Party to take place on the Ely’s Vice-Dean’s lawn during the afternoon.  However after much prayer and hope, the rain stopped at 2.55 (The tea started at 3.00 pm) and the people literally poured in.

There were only just enough places at the tables for the eighty people who came along relishing very crumb of the promised superb home baked scones and cakes.  Cucumber sandwiches, scones with delicious homemade strawberry jam and clotted cream and rich fruit cakes, all washed down with hot tea, was the order of the day and clearly enjoyed by all.

Organiser, Juliette Tuplin and all her willing band of helpers did a wonderful job of setting the tables just so and welcoming everyone even the Fund a Physio balloons, taking the trick, were enjoyed by the children.

At the end of the afternoon Alyth Hughes CID Trustee and Fund Physio’s Consulting Physiotherapist   offered a brief update of the needs and achievements of CID and Ely’s own Fund a Physio and thanked the generous host and hostess the Vice-Dean and Mrs Pritchard, who were kind enough to let guests trample all over their lovely garden and trail all the mud into their kitchen for such a good cause.

Perhaps the most gratifying thing about the afternoon; Two more people volunteered  to join the Fund a Physio committee and the two nurses, Lorna Rodger and Staff Sergeant Alex Rutherford came to find out more about the charity that they are about to help by giving a course in resuscitation in Romania in two weeks time.   Both the Army and also the Cambridge Health Authority have approved paid leave for them to help us in the hospices.  (They also run marathons, half-marathons and Lorna does triathlon and in future they will seek sponsorship to support the children treated by CID and Fund-a-Physio’s treatment programmes).

With so many guests well-fed and watered and encouraged by their support the future for Fund a Physio looks bright. Our very well fed and happy guests generously raised a much needed  £700 to help fund future child development therapy of for children with disabilities which was, after all, the hard work from everyone involved , very gratifying.
