It seems that in Romania today that old maxim that there is nothing surer than death and taxes is very much to the fore. The taxmen of Bucharest’s Sector 2 are getting ever more desperate to raise funds , when one found out that Copii in Dificultate and St Margaret’s hospice had been fundraising locally rather than depend on charity from the UK they immediately thought exploit the team’s hard work and local supporter’s generosity.

After weeks pouring over the hospice’s accounts they accept that the fundraising is made up of personal and corporate donations at events and that children in terminal and palliative care have the legal right to a little funding from the Sector’s Child Protection Department . They even acknowledge that St Margaret’s Hospice is a not for profit children’s centre run by charitable foundation that is a national benefit. But why would any of that stop a heatless bureaucrat from levying local taxes. It wouldn’t happen elsewhere in Europe but this is one heartless taxman that doesn’t give a dam.

What’s more it seems that he wants to backdate the charges to 2006 after all its only €11.000 and he say we should pay up or face the consequences and we can always appeal to “the best courts money can buy” for justice.

Neculai Onțanu, the Mayor of Sector 2, is an experienced and consummate politician has agreed to meet a CID Ro team led by Valentina Zaharia on the 29^th September to see what can be done to review the proposals made by his tax team hopefully common sense will prevail.
