Top StoryConsett’s Christchurch MU - a colourful bunch who had things all sewn up!The Concett party Jane Russell, CID‘s intrepid and far travelled North of England Fundraiser, drove over to Consett, Co Durham on Wednesday 5th October to share with the Christchurch MU details of how needed CID’s work is today. The members of this talented and enterprising Mothers’ Union had also invited their Methodist friends along to hear the latest news of Children in Distress and to enjoy the hospitality of a simply magnificent post-talk celebration spread laid on for “afters”.
As Jane’s talk ended, the result of their “knit-a-thon’s” hard work was produced, a beautiful large, colourful, hand-knitted blanket, which is the first of the CID Sponsored Knits to be completed. Ann Almond the very first member of the charity’s Handcrafter’s Guild who is also a member of the Christchurch MU had sewn all the sponsored knit strips together to make this dazzling “blanket of many colours”. Jane was then presented with their “golden” gift bag containing £550, the sponsorship money gathered in by the MU members as part of their Knit-a-thon 2011. Children in Distress Day is certainly off to a superb start this year
Our grateful thanks go to everyone involved, not only for the fantastic sponsor fund raised but particularly for inspiration and taking the time to sew the knitted strips together to make such a wonderful blanket. Last but not least, for making Jane so welcome at your meeting!
