Top Story“Please Release Me Let Me Go”-Florin FloreaFlorin with a "Get Well"card Last week, after seven days in the Gregore Alexandrescu Hospital, cardiologists finally gave approval for an operation on Florin’s right ankle, which limits his ability to walk. His surgeon hoped to improve and stretch tendons scarred and damaged by previous operations, rotate and set his foot and simply make walking easier. Even though his St. Margaret’s care team were with him every day Florin, like any frightened little boy, just hated being away from his “friends and family”. The team was upset at his obvious distress and the constant chants of “I want to go home”. “I miss my bed”. “I miss my friends”. “I don’t have to have the injections”. “I hate needles”.
Once in plaster, Florin was eager to get home and on Friday, when he was finally discharged and back in his own bed in the hospice he couldn’t wait to share “I missed you terribly” with everyone.
Florin’s surgery was “a success”. He will have a plaster cast for a month, after which Claudiu Constantine, St Margaret’s senior physiotherapist will make sure Florin has a physiotherapy, exercise and treatment plan to get him back on his feet and facilitate his recovery. Essentially, this was Florin’s last chance to run play and walk like any other boy his age. His surgeon is optimistic, confident the operation was a success but Florin has a long way to go but hopefully all will be well this time.
