Would you like Vintage Romanian Embroidery?

Vintage handcrafted Romanian embroiderly at its best

Joy Storrs-Fox aged 92 has been a staunch supporter of Children in Distress for a great number of years and when we set up CID’s Handcrafters’ Guild, as a keen handcrafter she was one of the first who joined. Joy has been in touch with Jane Russell over a number of years since as a Trustee of Next Steps Mental Health Resource of Norton, Malton she has arranged that its members regularly knit and crochet blankets, jumpers, cardigans, hats and scarves for the children in the charity’s hospices and projects in Romania.

Recently, Joy contacted Jane to share that she had a clutch bag and purse in beautiful Romanian white embossed embroidery, which were about 80 years old and would she like them as display items for any future craft exhibitions. Of course, Jane, knowing of the quality of early Romanian handcrafted embroidery said “yes” and they duly arrived together with an equally beautifully worked handkerchief. Joy’s late Father was an industrial research chemist in the 1930’s and had brought these items back from a business trip to Romania for Joy’s Mother. They are beautiful examples of traditional 1930’s Romanian hand embroidery.
