Ana-Maria Raluca Radulescu 09.09.2011-07.05.2012

Ana Maria

Ana-Maria came to St Margaret’s in December after problems with her shunt surgery. She was born with hydrocephalus and a cleft lip and palate. Her parents,Valentina Popescu and Nicolae Radulescu, in their mid to late twenties worked hard but struggled to manage on their joint income of little more that £60 per week.  They simply couldn’t afford to care 'Raluca' but they came regularly to spend a little time and hold her close. Sadly, Ana-Maria’s condition deteriorated quickly on Thursday 3rd May as her heart began to fail, her circulation worsened her hands, and her feet were cyanotic and had oedema.

St Margaret’s medical and nursing team battled to help. However, on 7th May she was rushed to the Victor Gomoiu Hospital. Late in the afternoon, after little more than three hours, the doctors announced that she had suffered heart and respiratory failure.

Unlike so many of the other children in the hospice, Ana-Maria’s parents loved their only daughter dearly and, although they couldn’t have her in their home, both of them came and visited her often. They are devastated by her death, so our work with this young family is far from finished, and they have been assured of our support with all the legal procedures and with any other problem they have to face during these difficult times.

St Margaret’s is a  children's hospice, but losing one of our children is always difficult and we desperately need help  to ensure that another child can have the love and care Maria received over the last five months. If you could help by sponsoring our work, please contact Alisdair Barron at alisdairbarron@childrenindisteress.org.uk or make an online donation via our website at www.childrenindistress.org
