St Margaret’s “special” Children’s Day Celebration

Celebrations in the house of fun

Since it was the June 1st. We had a little celebration for the children, staff, family and friends of St Margaret’s Hospice in the sensory garden. Dressed in their Sunday best, the children had gifts, a special lunch and, of course, their favorite chocolate cake. The staff and visitors sang “Happy Children’s Day” (which by the way sounds suspiciously like “Happy birthday”) and everyone applauded. Instead of candles, the celebration cake had a special little firework, which initially scared Denisa a little, until she got used to the sparkles. Rafael, St Margaret’s own ‘Speedy Gonzales’, was as usual full of energy and hard to keep still, Maria was mesmerized by the firework and Darius joked a little with the staff by pretending that he didn’t wanted to smile for a photograph.

Two special guests, Dermot and Sandra Lamb dropped in and joined the fun, which made this celebration even more special. Dermot, formerly CID UK’s Operations Director, was in Romania on a private visit and dropped in when he heard of the event. Dermot, who left some time ago, continues to support CID UK and regularly shares the wealth of his experience built up over many years working in various roles in the UK charity sector.

At the end of this special day, everyone who was there, children and adults alike wished supporters and friends around the world a “Very Happy Children’s Day!”

If you would like to help ensure that St Margaret’s hospice children have many other “Children’s Day” celebrations perhaps you might like to consider sponsoring a child or becoming a  sponsor of one of the hospice’s respite, palliative or end of life care cots.
