The FEN-tastic FUND-A-PHYSIO, ELY

Chrisine Diebel's 'Safari' quilt, a superb example of the qaulity handmade gifts available in November

Fund-a-Physio, Ely is a volunteer support group and partner organisation that helps make this charity’s commitment to paediatric physiotherapy, child development therapy and education a reality. Over the last year alone, Fund a Physio, Ely has sent Alyth Hughes, CID’s Consultant Physiotherapist  to Romania four times despite increases in both the fares and the subsistence levels.

Since it foundation, this wonderful group has delivered exceptionally successful years of service and care deftly balancing  fundraising and the delivery of practical training and care.  This year it plans  three main fund raising events, a 10th July ‘Open Garden’, which is a Yellow Book event within the National Gardens Scheme; 6th October a ‘Musical Soiree’ at a grand local house where the Lantern Dance Group, the phenomenally successful PHAB dance group, will perform and  when  ‘Alternative Medicine’, a choral group, will join them.  The evening will finish with a superb fork supper and wine.

On 15-17th November, Fund-a-Physio will have a stall at Ely Cathedral’s Food and Craft Fair, a new three day craft event. Alyth Hughes will lead, the sales team, Jane Russell, Janet Catton and the Patchwork group will be coming along to support and supply some of the exceptional and specially handcrafted goods that will make ideal and unique Christmas gifts. This new Craft and Food Fair set within the medieval cathedral has signed up exceptional handcraft stalls and fine food purveyors, so hopefully this will be first of many events that grow in quality and quality in years to come. All the proceeds from sales on both the CID and Fund-a-Physio stalls will go directly to Children in Distress.

During the year, their founding chair, Juliette Tuplin resigned, due to pressure of family commitments. Juliette goes with our resounding thanks for all she helped achieve. Her successor, Gillian Hodge takes up the baton to carry forward this story of success; Gillian was the Superintendent Physiotherapist at Addenbrookes Hospital and has a deep knowledge of all things therapeutic.

Already Fund-a-Physio is planning its next twelve-month programme and hopes to offer something new and interesting. Well done everyone involved where would we be without you.
