Top StoryCelebrating the Diamond Jubilee Romanian stylePrince Charles at the Jubliee Garden Party chatting with former Presidents Constantinescu and Ionescu The Charity’s Romanian Patron and Executive Director, Maria Popa and Valentina Zaharia were pleased to be invited to join Romania’s ‘Great and Good’, at the Diamond Jubilee garden party held in Bucharest on Monday. They chatted informally with former Heads of State, leading politicians, and leaders of commerce and industry as well as representatives of the British ex-pat community there to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth’s Diamond Jubilee.
The event was hosted by Her Majesty’s Ambassador, Martin Harris and organized by the British Embassy was attended by the Prince of Wales who is currently on a short private visit to Romania. Prince Charles in his speech shared that “he was very happy to be able to visit Romania and thus to pay ‘a small homage’ to Romania on this special occasion. He felt that the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Bucharest with their garden party and planned Lotus, Jaguar and Mini sports cars parade through the city and a London bus on the streets of the capital, with its brass band performing songs from the Beatles, offered a further opportunity of reinforcing the good relations between our two countries and peoples”.
Prince Charles, who owns a house in Viscri village and two properties in Valea Zalanului had earlier been received by President Basescu. He also has the chance to foster good relations chatting to former Presidents Ionesco and Constantinescu as well as the new Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
Sadly, neither of CID’s stalwarts was in the reception line and Prince Charles’s open invitation to pay private a visit to St Margaret’s Hospice and Child Care Centre in Bucharest to see the work of Children in Distress still has to be delivered |
