Is York a Garden City?

Audrey and Clare with  patterns to spare

Castaway Yarns, the Haxby yarn shop, asks York’s knitters to ‘Knit a Garden for Children in Distress’

Castaway Yarns is asking knitters to help knit a summer garden for Children in Distress.

Clare and her  team,  are so impressed by the work carried out by Children in Distress and the endeavour of Jane Russell, local regional Funding Development Manager that they have signed up to help. As they say, “The work this charity does is amazing and Castaway Yarns wants to help and support them the best way we know how – with our knitting needles!”

So the clarion call is out to the generous knitters of York to help knit (or crochet!) a garden of delight for Children in Distress. It is quite a project for knitters can choose to knit anything garden related – any flower or plant, fruit, birds, butterflies, bumblebees, frankly anything you would find in a garden!

Audrey Wilson, a local knitwear designer, has also very kindly donated a tea rose and apple pattern to the cause. Both patterns are available at Castaway Yarns in return for a minimal donation if £1.00 to Children in Distress.

Castaways are asking that the hand knitted flora or fauna be handed into their Castaway Yarns shop in Haxby, by the 6th October 2012, so they can unveil the completed garden in the shop on Children in Distress day Saturday the 13th October.

The team are determined to make this a roaring success and raise the profile of a very worthy charity! Therefore, as well as inviting everyone to help they are also inviting people to ‘purchase’ bunches of flowers in the form of donating to Children in Distress.

If you feel have a knitted flower or crochet borders in you  or might like to help York’s knitters or sponsor their work or just  require further information about this enterprising appeal, please contact Clare at Castaway Yarns, 6 Haxby Shopping Centre, Haxby, York, YO32 2LU on  01904 764644  or alternatively why not Email: clare@castawayyarnsyork.co.uk
