Beyond the first few steps and ready to conquer the world

Maria cooling in the playpool

Little Maria is recovering fast after the surgery on her head and brain tissue. Last week she took the last great leap of faith and passed from a few tottering steps from hand to carer’s hand to walking all by herself like any other “young lady”. She is now almost “unstoppable” perhaps not yet quite up to Rafael’s ‘Speedy Gonzales’ road-runner style but getting there.

She has all but left the bottle behind and is finally mastering the art of eating with a spoon and on the play front, she has mastered juggling cubes and balls, getting them from their box then putting them back neatly. Like all little girls she still craves attention and get upset if her carers concentrates on any of the of the other children and doesn’t give her the attention she feels she “deserves”

Active she may be however, Maria still has to master speech despite all the effort by everyone around  her,  but we have patience and it will come-after all she still a lot of growing up to do.

If you would like to help sponsor Maria’s care or the work of St Margaret’s Hospice please contact our sponsorship champion Julian Dawydiak on julian.dawydiak@childrenindistress.org.uk or call  0141 559 5956
