“Art with a Heart” Reaching out to help CID’s Hospice Children

Mihail shares a moment with Rafi at St Margaret\'s Hospice

Mihail Gavril is a fascinating man, he is not only an award winning master painter he is an intensely spiritual man who has strong feeling for his fellow man.

Mihail, is a son of breathtaking Bukovina one of northern Romania’s most beautiful regions, he left his village home at twelve years of age to follows his muse. He studied in Suceava and the art faculties of Iasi; however, his undoubted talent went unrecognised by the art establishment under the Ceausescu regime. The fall of communism was liberating and he has travelled Europe seeking inspiration for his work. He has mastered pencil, oil and watercolour using self-taught innovative techniques even including metal plates and leather to portray unique impressions of landscapes, seascapes, buildings, churches and cathedrals.  Mihail is one of first of the increasing school of artists who have rediscovered the delight and inspiration  of the light and panoramas of Balchik one of the favourite inter war holiday retreat  of Queen Marie of Roumania.

His work has been widely exhibited received international acclaim including the Seymour-Oberner Foundation award at the prestigious Swiss Artforum in 2007.

Mihail has never forgotten his roots and remains firmly committed to help others particularly the children in CID’s hospices and children’s projects. He is the inspiration for  the Children in Distress “Art with Heart” Appeal 2012 and his work will feature in the Charity Exhibition and Auction that will take place in Bucharest’s prestigious  “Gavroche Antic” Art  Gallery in Bucharest’s Polona street on Thursday 27th September 2012. The patrons of the Gallery have donated a painting for sale and one hundred artists have offered all the commission on the sale of their work to help fund some of the charity hospice care.

Mihail has also sent a selection of a recently much acclaimed exhibition the UK, the pick of a prize exhibition of his painting will be exhibited in Glasgow and Ely Cathedral later this year. These beautiful oils are also available for sale as part of this year’s “Art with Heart" Appeal through the charity’s website.
