Adam’s Marathon for CID

Adam and Micah sharing a little time together

Within days of the close of runner registrations London Marathon, CID’s nominated champion, Ben Rivis, was unfortunately forced to pull out of the race due to ill health, so a desperate race was on to find a new candidate, until Jane Russell’s daughter approached a co-worker, who in turn recommended Adam Rafell.

Adam works for a charity, which improves the lives of orphans and underprivileged children in Ukraine by providing educational, psychological services and humanitarian aid to Jewish communities.  CID’s work therefore touched a chord, as some of the needs of the children with whom CID are working , the trauma and neglect in early life leading to difficulties transitioning to adult life after leaving the orphanages are broadly similar. To Adam the provision of care for disabled and terminally ill children is also so important. Adam therefore hopes that his marathon run will raise a substantial contribution to help CID and its work. Although to do so he acknowledges that he will need a deal of help and support from CID supporters and their friends.

Adam shares “Hi, I’m Adam, I grew up in York. I met my wife, Fiona, while studying Theology at St Andrews University. We came back to York and married in 2008, we now have beautiful 6 ½ month old son, Micah. I started a little running whilst at University; I really caught the running bug and stepped up the pace in 2012, when I decided to do an Olympic distance Triathlon. This will be my fourth Marathon, since running my first one two years ago but my first time running in London so I am very excited about that.  Becoming a parent has given me a totally new appreciation of how priceless a child’s life is. So the opportunity to help Children in Distress support some of Europe’s forgotten children, and to give them something of what most of us take for granted for our own children, will be a real privilege. I hope and pray that you will be able to help by donating just little on my Just Giving site, your support  needn’t cost a lot for as they used  to say in St Andrew’s  many a mickle makes a muckle”  To donate please click the hyperlink

Thank you for your help and support and look out for my training updates.”
