Turning a blind eye and deaf ear to adversity

Come play with me Please!!!

To those who do not know him, little Rafael Ilie seems  a normal, if a little different looking little boy, just buzzing with energy, but his carers have concerns that this "little charmerhas increasing problems with his sight, his hearing and his recently  diagnosed Hepatitis C, which is now acute, having  proved unresponsive to  prescribed Interferon. Rafi’s ophthalmic surgeons have made their final unsuccessful attempt to save the sight in his left eye, where recurrent retinal detachment was causing particular problems. Retinal detachment is a complication of Stykler Syndrome, a genetic condition he has had since birth. He is now having  real problems with his hearing which may require hearing aids.

None of  this hold this little bundle of energy back, he chats away and interacts with his surroundings, carers and friends, he just adores being with people and is the first to  the door of the  hospice day room, to wave at visitors and to invite them in, or simply to shout out his invitations to play.

Each day, Rafi maximises  his potential and flourishes at St Margaret’s, where he as every advantage, the Lord only knows how he would be if he remained in the sad, dingy and understaffed hospital ward from which he was rescued as a  babe in arms. Sponsors across the UK and his carers are doing a wonderful job giving this extraordinary little boy a life worth living. Please share the message of what we can  achieve with you friends on Facebook.
