Our new “Whizz on Wheels” having a ball

Nico having a ball

When you are little and have Spina bifida, the opportunity   to have fun and be like just other kids is absolutely essential. For Nicoleta, the last visit to the crèche in the Mall was just wonderful for she could be propped upright and surrounded by the fun and joy of a ball pool. Nico and her whole gang from the children’s ward had been taken along as a special treat and their  outing was such a success that ever since, the kids have plagued  Executive Director, Valentina Zaharia,  to be take for a second visit, with lots of “ Please, Please  Miss Vali”. Vali determined on one special outing, as a  treat just before Easter, as she will be away immediately thereafterto attend   her Master’s Degree summer school in Salonika. Vali will get back just in time to host  the next Supporter’s Tour, which will arrive in Bucharest on April 27th,  to see just what can be achieved with little help and support from the UK.

Despite having a busy schedule, Vali set aside the time to spend  a little “fun time” with the kids, enjoying all that the crèche has to offer,  and the crèche staff were just thrilled to have kids, who so clearly enjoyed being somewhere totally different. It was a very tired and happy troop of children who were driven home to St Margaret’s for tea.

Part of the philosophy of St Margaret’s is to ensure that its children experience as much of normal life as they can. Their lives may be different and beset by problems, but that is no reason why children like Nicoleta should not to have the chance to have fun.

The other hot news is that Nico has been given a new personalised wheelchair and has joined “the jet set” to become St Margaret’s new “whizz on wheels” so there will be no holding this little one back  from now on.
