Margaret and Oliver making the “ultimate” sacrifice

Margaret and Olly after their "ultimate" sacrifice

Margaret Radford, a long-time supporter and her young friend Oliver Pillmore made quite a hair raising sacrifice on Saturday 27th of June, losing their hair to talented stylists Lisa and Julie to help Rafi, a young resident of St Margaret’s Hospice in Bucharest, with the additional hearing aid and medication he urgently needs.

Margaret is particularly grateful to Asda Store Managers, Falso and his recently appointed successor Rebecca Portess, for allowing the venue  and  to  the Store’s  local management team, her friends and co-workers all of whom rallied round, in the foyer of the ASDA’s  Long Eaton store, to cheer along as her locks and those of Olly  fell to their respective  No2 and No1 clipper settings.

She is also exceptional grateful to both Liza and Lewis for their “tonsorial talent” and for simply being un-phased when faced with the large crowd who gathered in support.

Margaret just wanted to do something “radical and unexpected” and the shocked looks on people’s faces, when she shared her idea, bought a deal of amusement.  She was thrilled when Olly agreed to join in and both agree that apart from all the fun, it was almost as whelming as it was rewarding. They exceed all expectations, crashing through each target almost as soon as it was set. So, they share their grateful thanks for the generosity, support and the outpouring of love that has made it possible to raised so much, all in a good cause; making  such a difference to Rafi’s life and put a gorgeous smile on the face of an amazing little boy battling Stickler’s syndrome.

Margaret paid a special personal tribute to Oliver sharing “I would like to thank Ollie for coming on board with this madcap idea, when he heard about Rafi. He didn't think twice it, it was a natural reaction for him to say “we'll do it together” - this for me make him a very special young man.
