Spring is here and a time for putting your best foot forward at St Andrew’s

After the fitting

This week Izabela received a brand new pair of orthopaedic boots. Little Izabela suffers from muscular hypotonia or muscle weakness; her muscles are never fully relaxed so they retain a certain amount of tension and stiffness (muscle tone) that can be felt as resistance to movement.  She suffers she needs special shoe wear to support her feet and ankles and she also needs to wear them all the time as a preventive and corrective approach.

Dana, the centre’s physiotherapist, the doctor and staff from Health Insurance House in Arges County collaborated closely so that Izabela could receive a new pair of therapeutic shoes. The boots are really quite special and are decorated with lovely flowers, quite suited for a young lady. Iza studied them closely while they were being put on but the whole sitting up right thing  seemed a bit daunting at first. She has gotten used to them now so they don’t bother her and she seems to feel comfortable while wearing them.

The boots and her physiotherapy sessions play a crucial role in Iza’s recovery and help her feel relaxed. Her therapist continues to apply muscle toning techniques and to perform exercises with her so that in time she will gain both static and dynamic balance.

The care team are very happy for Izabela and although progress comes in small doses and with the help of small steps, Iza is already on the right track feeling just little more confident and at ease.
