Andreea - A story of education and inspiration

Andreea and friend hard at work

Andreea enrolled in the CID Educational Support Programme in the School 62, when she started first grade. Her Mum felt she needed a little help   education and support. She comes from a two parental family, but her dad’s erratic behaviour and alcohol dependency led to an emotional rift and deteriorating family environment. Her parents separated, but are not legally divorced. Her mother is a simple and modest soul who knows the importance of education. As she, herself, had limited educational opportunity she actively supports Andrea with school activities and homework.

Mum even went so far as to ask for tutoring classes so, she could learn to read and write. When she needed to apply for a social scholarship for Andrea, she was talked into  signing  a legal documents declaring  she couldn’t read, which was tantamount to declaring  that her husband was  Adreea’s  sole guardian, who  cared of her daughter’s  needs, although  her parents were separated and Andreea was actually living at home with her Mum. Throughout, Andreea has been consistently supported and helped by her Mum to learn and have a proper education and she has ensured active participation in all the educational activities delivered by our CID team. To an extent, Andreea has been “adopted” by the CID team, who welcomes her with open arms, and offer her help and support whenever a little self-doubt steps in.

Presently Andreea is in 3rd grade and continues to attend the project. She works hard and studies although  her grades are only average since she still struggles a little with self-doubt but we are sure that she will make better progress in future. Andreea’s mum recently asked for the team’s support to ensure her enrollment the “Second Chance” National Education Programme; and in return Andreea, is helping mum in learning to read, write and with mathematics.

Andreea’s success story is just another reason to continue to develop the work and activity of CIDRo’s Education Project and her progress at school and at home, despite all her challenges, gives hope that Andreea will have a bright and successful future. Keep up the good work, young lady and we are very proud of you and of your Mum!
