CHILDREN IN DISTRESS back caring and sharing at St Laurence, Cernavoda.

Professional therapists making the difference

St. Laurence Centre, Cernavoda, operated by the PositivPlus+ Association was an initiative of Children in Distress which currently offers sheltered homes to young adults with HIV, PositivPlus+ has extended its activity to meet the needs of the beneficiaries and the Centre’s capacity has  increased to care for up to 20 adults and it now seeks to care for a further  5 children.

Seeking a license when under pressure to meet the care needs of a larger number of beneficiaries is a dispiriting, complex and often, bureaucratic process. Children in Distress, with its wealth of experience caring for children, are only too happy to be of help. So CID’s local team has become actively involved in preparing all the documentation, procedures and the relevant formalities, whilst also providing professional consultancy and external audit and review.

Claudiu Constantin, CIDRo’s Consultant Physiotherapist and member of the Board has been back and forward to Cernavoda to evaluate and assure therapy sessions for the residents at St. Laurence. Together with Irina, the newly appointed local physio he has reviewed their therapy plans and specifically those of Elena Roxana, who was recently admitted badly in need of professional physiotherapy. When she first arrived May, the St. Laurence team found it difficult to believe that she was 27 years old as she looked much younger, closer to the age of a child. Elena’s story is tragic, coming from Tulcea County; she was obliged to abandon school at the age of 11, when her mother died.  Given her diagnosis, without family support, continuing her studies was nigh impossible. After her father’s recent death, her only younger sister couldn’t assure her much help so Elena was found a home at St. Laurence’s by the County’s Social Services.

After a comprehensive health evaluation it was clear that Elena needs physiotherapy so from  available  funds she is assured 1-2 sessions per week, however  very soon she will need 3-4 sessions to assure her progress, otherwise everything achieved  to date  is at risk of being undone.Elana needs the help a sympathetic sponsors to help fund her therapy sessions, each of which costs £ 20. If you can help, Tina is waiting to take your donation please call 0141 5595690 All and any help is welcome!
