CID back doing what it does best at St Laurence Cernavoda

Relaxing after sorting out the stores

These days, there’s an excitement, new life and hope buzzing about the St Laurence Campus in Cernavoda; for CID has decided to step back in and set up a new project offering refuge, a safe home and hope of a new family life to a number of HIV Positive children, who currently can find none of these in the multitude of local authority Child Placement Centres across Romania.

The existing residents are thrilled to hear that St. Laurence will again care for children and teenagers. Most of them fondly remember when St. Laurence sheltered up to seventy children and offered a haven akin almost to heaven to infants and children living with the virus. This time round CID’s new project in Casa Veche or Casa Catherine as it is now known, initially will be home.for only five children.

From the existing seventeen young adults residents, who are medically fit to help, a few will be actively involved in helping set up this new project, some, even want also to help care for the new residents when they arrive and all look forward to being part of their new extended family so the children who will come to Cernavoda from all over Romania can quickly settle in. We already have a 14 years old resident at St. Laurence Cernavoda and are confident that we will not disappoint the other children who are waiting to come to CID’s new children’s project.

The building re-development and refurbishing work has already started with a “spring clean” operation where everyone, staff and residents, lent a hand to empty and clean the rooms of the Old House now known as Casa Catherine to make ready for the builders. Olimpia Marin, the project manager led a very willing team in sorting out the existing furniture and equipment selecting those bits and pieces which could be of use in the new kid’s rooms.

That task now being complete the building development and refurbishing works can start. A small refurbishment reserve is available, but to complete the redevelopment to a good standard some additional funds will be needed from both British and Romanian sponsors. So any immediate donations no matter how small will be more than welcome.
