“Love in a Box” Shoebox Appeal in full swing

Cath Rowan, one of the Newton and Wallacetown Church  of Scoland's Co-ordinators with the Ayrshire contribution to this year's Shoebox Appeal.

Across the UK, the team of volunteers, who make the Charity’s “Love in a Box” Christmas Shoebox Appeal the undoubted success that it is, is beavering away, collecting boxes and donations of warm winter clothing and knits for shipment to the children of Romania and elsewhere in Eastern Europe, who are in hospitals, state orphanages or at home but living in the direst poverty.

In Scotland, Newton and Wallacetown Church have long been a key collection point for Shoeboxes crammed with “wonderful things”. This year with the help and support of the residents of the local Hansel Village, the team collected and filled over four hundred and thirty boxes of delights. Kay Bell, of the Hansel Foundation, encouraged the residents of this sheltered residence and employment haven, to collect and fill over 80 boxes and as she said “I am only sorry that our young people were not involved before for they enjoyed every minute of thinking about and helping children like themselves.”

The “honest men and bonnie lassies” of Newton and Wallacetown Church rallied round to help pack the van, which later rushed their contribution to join the other boxes palleted and ready for shipment in the warehouse of Preston of Potto, who generously help support and sponsor the packing and storage prior of shipment.

The children who will benefit and the CID and CIDRO management teams involved, share their grateful thanks to everyone, donors and volunteers, who this year contributed to bringing a little of the joy of Christmas to the poorest children in Europe.

It is not too late to add your own contribution, as boxes can be added to the shipment if you can get them to Caroline Wilkie before the 22nd of November, contact or  call 07775695611.
