A few days ago, the pupils of Nicolae Balcescu Elementary School in Pitesti visited St. Andrew’s Centre during the national “A Different School” programme to engage in various extracurricular activities proposed by their teachers.
The hard-working and disciplined students were looking forward to this particular experience as they had heard so many positive things about our facility. They were anxious to roam around the centre’s halls meeting our beneficiaries, learning more about their diagnoses and their daily routines.
The get together was emotional as we realised that our current society is taking steps towards acceptance and inclusion of children with various special needs. Their visit was a nice opportunity for the Centre’s children to make new friends and create bonds with other children from our local community, so that future play dates can be arranged either at the local park or in the Centre’s courtyard. The group of children were happy to meet with Claudia and Izabela, our proud representatives and everyone was impressed with their outgoing, happy, relaxed way of seeing things. Claudia engaged in witty repartee and Izabela invited them to play and share some of her toys.
Another moment of the visit took place when our esteemed guests shared gifts among the centre’s children, very much needed items, presents which included medication and foods. We were incredibly happy and proud to have such kind people visit us and we are sure the day was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. We are looking forward to their next visit and to having the children play around or engage in entertaining games with Claudia.
