For some of the children resident at St Andrew’, given their prognosis, celebrating another birthday is a significant achievement. This year, Elizeo’s birthday fell on Sunday, 24th of June, when he reached 11 years of age. This is quite an achievement for him and a happy and very rewarding moment for each of his carers. Elizeo is in many ways, the happy outcome of years of dedicated care, love and total consideration and they now can’t imagine a day without him. So it was decided to throw a little party the following day, so that all the team could attend and shower Elizeo with hugs and kisses and sing “happy birthday”.
Birthday presents were bought, which joined another from Mrs. Jean Barley, one of his UK sponsors Jean had previous inquired about what Elizeo needed, so her gift included summer clothes ideal for the hot summer weather. She had sent a printed t-shirt and shorts and other t-shirts, which will keep him cool, and comfortable during hot and humid days of summer to come, this is exactly what was missing from his limited wardrobe.
On the day of the party, Elizeo was helped to try on his new outfit, everything fitted perfectly, and he looks quite dapper. Elizeo was cool and at ease in his new ensemble and looked his age, very much a young gent, hopefully looking forward to a brighter future. As the guests entered the ward, they sang a heartfelt “happy birthday”, everyone had a wonderful time, tasting the delicious cake and quenching their thirst with fruit juice. The children then continued the fun and games in the centre’s courtyard enjoying a day spent in the sun. All of us at CID would like to send thanks and best wishes to Elizeo’s friends and to wish him “happy birthday, and many happy returns”!
