Celebrating our volunteers at the seaside
Our staff team and volunteers enjoyed a wonderful day out together at the seaside in Whitby yesterday, with fish and chips and ice cream.
Over 40 volunteers give hundreds of hours each year to support Children in Distress and the children and communities we serve.
This is the second year in a row we have taken time out to spend a special day together, celebrating all of your individual contributions and recognising that volunteering is also about friendship, purpose, community and belonging.
Whether supporting our two charity shops, assisting with fundraising activities, helping with administration or supporting our annual Shoebox Appeal, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.
Thank you to each and every one of you for everything you do and we really enjoyed the day with you 🧡
Our CEO, Simon Errington, said:
"Our retail teams and volunteers do far more than raise vital funds. They create welcoming spaces at the heart of their communities, offering friendship, purpose and connection to those who volunteer alongside them. Our shops have become communities in their own right - places where people support one another, share experiences, enjoy a laugh and make a genuine difference together.
Volunteering is often described as giving something back, but it also gives so much to those who take part. It builds confidence, reduces isolation, develops skills and creates lasting friendships. That sense of belonging is something well worth celebrating."
