Supporting Romanian Communities in the UK

We’ve been making a difference to young lives in Romania for over 35 years and are proud to have recently extended our reach and impact to children here in the UK. We have funded three grassroots projects focused on young people from Romanian communities – two in Hull and one in London.

Growing Roots

The Nicolae Lorga Sunday School in Hull provides a regular community space where local Romanian children can connect with their roots, history and heritage. Children in Distress has Yorkshire roots as a charity and we are delighted to be able to fund such an important project in this area.

Simon Errington and Neile Abbs from our team recently visited the project and spoke to a volunteer who explained the huge impact the Sunday School has made on her daughter's life:

"It really helps her to develop her vocabulary. She was born here in England and doesn’t speak Romanian well. They learn about Romania, their country and their roots. My child didn’t know the town I came from on the Black Sea in Romania and now she knows much more and wants to visit Romania more often. It has a great impact on them."

Your support is helping us to make this important difference to young lives in both the UK and Romania. Thank you.
